In a heartfelt effort to bridge the gap between Hollywood and the talented veterans of Pacific Palisades, Joe Ramirez, a Marine Corps veteran and commander of American Legion Palisades Post 283, is launching an innovative film festival. The MV Shorts LA Film Festival, debuting on November 8 at Culver City’s Veterans Memorial Auditorium, aims to reconnect veterans with the opportunities that once thrived in California’s entertainment sector.

Supporting Our Heroes’ Talents

Ramirez founded the National Entertainment Awards Academy for Military & Veterans (NEAAMV) earlier this year, recognizing the loss of technical job opportunities as film production migrated out of the state. “When film production started leaving, I saw crew members, many of them veterans, scrambling for work,” Ramirez stated.

The festival is not just an event; it’s a beacon of hope and a platform for showcasing veterans’ skills. It provides pathways for veterans through scholarships up to $1,000, mentorship programs, and recognition via a star-studded red-carpet ceremony, according to Palisades News.

An Industry Embrace

The festival presents a chance for veteran and civilian filmmakers to share military-themed stories, with winning films being eligible for distribution on VetStreamTV. Categories include Best Overall Short Film by a Veteran, fostering an inclusive environment that champions storytelling through various lenses.

Talent Meets Opportunity

Jane Austin, a Pacific Palisades-based stuntwoman and SAG-AFTRA’s L.A. Military Committee Chair, emphasizes the festival’s role in easing network barriers. “NEAAMV connects them with people who can open doors,” she shared.

Celebrating Accomplishments and Remembrance

The festival will honor notable contributors like Emmy winner Chris Holmstrom and pay tribute to late U.S. Army veteran Casey Kasem. A unique fashion show, featuring five innovative veteran designers, along with a special appearance by the Laker Girls, ensures the event is both inspirational and memorable.

Join The Movement

The community is invited to partake in this novel event from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m., with tickets available at mvawards.org. More than a festival, this is a rallying cry to recognize and elevate the skills of veterans who have served our nation.

Celebrate this momentous occasion where Hollywood meets heroism, bringing fresh hope and opportunities for those who have given so much in service.
