Unveiling Science Brilliance in Troy
It was an electrifying moment at the Greater Capital Region Science and Engineering Fair, hosted this past March at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy. Seven exceptional students from Shaker High School not only showcased their zeal for science and technology but also took home prestigious awards that earmark them as future leaders in scientific endeavor.
A Diverse Array of Research at Play
The fair was an arena of intellect where twelve Shaker students presented their innovative projects. These ranged from biomedical breakthroughs to environmental innovation. Pavithra Jayakumar stood out with her project on the use of graphene oxide and hydrophobic aerogels for oil spill adsorption, earning her a place at the esteemed International Science and Engineering Fair in Ohio. Pavithra’s work even attracted accolades from corporate giants, earning notable awards like the Momentive Performance Materials Science Award.
Celebrating Dedication and Innovation
Echoing the spirit of scientific inquiry, Ishika Yalamanchi delved into the antiviral responses of vascular cells, meriting her an invitation to the State Science Congress in Syracuse. Such dedication was mirrored by other students — Sarah Al Shaarawi’s ingenious energy device synthesis won the National Grid Award, while Saad Ashar’s mind was recognized by both the U.S. Air Force and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration for his predictive models of cloud dynamics.
Young Scientists with Global Visions
From Emma Freed’s cosmic explorations that garnered her the esteemed NASA Space Award, to Surabhi Krishnan and Aleena Saleem making strides in biological and nanotechnological research, the fair was a testament to their talents and hard work. The breadth of topics covered by these students showcases the incredible potential they carry into the future (According to Spotlight News).
Continuing the Legacy of Excellence
Each student’s achievements not only bring personal accolades but also elevate Shaker High’s standing in the scientific community. Events like these encourage young scientists to look beyond and ignite their passion for discovery. As the hallways echoed with laughter and excitement, it was clear: the future of science is in incredibly capable hands.
