Welcome to a new era of education and innovation as West Virginia University at Parkersburg (WVUP) launches its state-of-the-art Innovation and Technology Center in Vienna. With a vision transcending just a place of learning, this new center marks the beginning of an exciting journey for students, faculty, and the broader community.

A Blossoming Campus

Classes have commenced at the newly renovated former Ohio Valley University premises, as 159 eager students embarked on their academic pursuits in cutting-edge programs like Computer Science and Cybersecurity. According to News and Sentinel, the endeavor is more than just about academics; it’s about crafting a future filled with promise and potential.

President Torie Jackson attributes this monumental leap to collective efforts, describing it as a “labor of love” and a testament to what dreams and dedication can achieve.

Transforming Spaces

The transformation is ongoing. Surrounded by picturesque landscapes, the ground floor will soon feature a daycare center poised to accommodate 130 children, enriching the learning environment’s community aspect. Aiming to create meaningful experiences, the campus will also house a restaurant, a venue that will allow students, faculty, and visitors to savor local cuisine. It is expected to evolve into a vibrant place by early next year.

Community and Growth

The former chapel is being redesigned to become a vibrant meeting and wedding venue for 400 guests, expected by spring. President Jackson’s vision extends beyond WVUP’s borders, fostering collaboration with local bodies like the Wood County Development Authority to place Vienna on the map as a hub for technological advancement, childcare improvement, and economic growth.

Vision Turned Reality

With the Innovation and Technology Center, WVUP is not just providing education but nurturing dreams on 255.22 acres of potential within Vienna. Townhouses, expanded community facilities, and business partnerships are all part of a grander scheme promising economic invigoration and educational excellence.

This bold step represents a significant growth milestone in Wood County, reminiscent of when the Grand Central Mall soared. As President Jackson continues to drive plans forward, WVUP stands as a beacon of innovation, encapsulating a vision brought to life through shared passion and perseverance.

Classes have begun, plans are underway, and a future brimming with promise unfolds. “It was a dream written on a piece of paper,” Jackson muses, “and today, it’s alive with students learning in state-of-the-art classrooms.”

Stay tuned as education and community development brilliantly converge in Vienna, redefining what it means to dream and achieve in the heart of West Virginia.
